We are going to provide a quick overview of DNS for you, but for greater details please refer to: https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/74Docs/Zone+Editor

What is DNS?

DNS provides the critical connection pointing the human-readable www.decibite.com (domain name) to the internet routable 67.212.75.68 (IP Address). In a simple setup almost all the records will point to the same server ( for us, often 67.212.75.69 ), but DNS allows us to do some interesting things.

Feel free to reach out if you want to talk specifics, but the main records you will want to focus on are A, MX, CNAME, and TXT.  A does as we described above and translates human-readable names into network routable addresses. CNAME instead of returning a network routable address will return another human-readable name to lookup for the result. MX is used for mail routing, and TXT is often used for various levels of validation across many protocols but is ESPECIALLY common in validating mail delivery.

DNS is a necessary part of owning a domain, and if it fails everything else fails. Keeping your DNS healthy and fast is an important thing you really should never need to think about.
